Plumbing
Basements often pose challenges for the installation of plumbing
due to the fact that drains will often be below the point where the
waste water flows out of the house to the sewer or septic. There are
a number of solutions available, generally involving some sort of
pumping mechanism to move the flow up to the discharge pipes.
Here is an example of a bathroom installed in a basement. The toilet
incorporates an integral tank and pump for sending the waste to the
discharge. In this case, we were able to build a frame around the
plastic tank and tile it to blend in with the rest of the floor. The
sink to the left also drains into the tank.
It is also possible to excavate a hole and set the tank below the
floor level. This is a little more involved but would eliminate the
need for having the toilet on a raised platform.
