Harris Renovation is owned and operated by Steve Harris
Steve began learning about carpentry as a child
"My dad was one of the great do-it-yourselfers of his generation. I can scarcely remember a time when our house in New Jersey wasn't in the midst of one renovation project or another and I frequently got to watch and, as I got older, to help."
After graduating from high school, Steve tried various jobs and even a couple years of college before he took a job in Essex, Massachusetts working as the assistant to the owner of an apartment complex. Through this job Steve learned many aspects of maintenance, lawn care and painting. Then the owner of the complex decided to add on additional units. Since he was a licensed contractor, he did much of the work himself and taught Steve a great deal as he assisted in the project.
"Working on the expansion project was a real crash course in building. It was then that I began to really hone my skills and broaden my knowledge."
As of 2007, he's done over two dozen basement projects as well as a handful of additions, decks, kitchens, bathrooms and other such projects.
"I love doing the basement projects because they give the customers the most bang for their buck. They also offer the least disruption to the household during construction and that makes everybody happy."
I
really enjoy working on basement remodels. Clients are always so
thrilled to have so much more living space for such a relatively low
price. They also like the fact that there is so little disruption
and mess to deal with in the rest of the house while their basement
is being transformed.
